St. Cecilia's Church, Harlem
With a bas relief of the musician-saint over its arched entrance and with finely-wrought stained glass, tile and brickwork, St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Harlem brings to mind the many immigrant builders, craftsmen, and artisans whose work has graced the City of New York. Inside the church, at the north end of the east-facing wall, is a stained-glass figure of St. Patrick.
Dedicated in 1877, St. Cecilia's stands a couple of blocks from the 19th-Century sites of the homes of Catharine Coogan and her sons William, Hugh, Denis, and Mathew, as well as the homes of Patt and Mary Sheehan Coogan, Margaret Coogan Doyle, and Mary Meany Byrne.
